About Me

I have developed and managed a variety of clean development projects with a focus on sustainable, decentralised infrastructure that is deeply integrated in the local community. My work has taken me to Timor Leste, Uganda, Mozambique, Germany and back to Australia, where I have partnered with farmers, local and national governments, regulators and organisations like the African Union and the EU.

Community uptake is my niche in green infrastructure. Whether it's electrification, waste management, green spaces or transport - big public investments and building projects mean nothing if a project is not integrated well into the local landscape of residents, businesses, social structures and culture. You can build clean power, water, transport or open spaces, but it doesn't mean people will make use of it unless they feel somehow connected with it.

When I started working in infrastructure, I was bewildered by all the processes and time it took to make even a small public project happen. What I have taken away from over a decade of complicated measures on policy, regulation, finance, engineering, science and public relations, is that we as the beneficiaries of public infrastructure need to play a stronger role in planning our future, understanding the science and dynamics, caring for the environment, and respecting each others' hard work. I believe there are environmental, personal, social and financial benefits from us getting our hands dirty and engaging with the green and built environment around us.
